Calm + Curious

Loneliness is one of the greatest public health challenges of our time. In 2018 the UK government acknowledged this by launching the first cross-government strategy to tackle loneliness.

We need to build better communities where no one feels alone and isolated. I started with my local community, helping it to become a happier, less lonely place.

What can we do to help?

Everyone in the community should have the opportunity to learn to be happier and to live an enjoyable life. Bringing people together is essential because they can connect while practising.

If you are happy you will spread happiness, generating a ripple effect. The community will become a happier place.

I organise well-being events and provide free well-being sessions in the community. In Guildford, two wonderful local venues support my work:

  • The Boileroom arts and music venue generously offered to waive any fees, allowing me to offer mindfulness courses and behappify courses with free entry.
  • The Friary shopping centre offered a retail store at the heart of their town-centre location for Mental Awareness Week 2019, allowing the opportunity to organise a well-being event.

At the moment we can’t reach everyone in the community. Some may not participate due to their mental or physical abilities. How can we reach these isolated people?

Community Angels is a local charity aiming to reach-out to isolated people. I am a volunteer and committee member for the Community Angels because they are aligned with my mission: a community where nobody feels lonely or isolated; where the strength of relationships means that everyone feels they are valued, supported and that they belong.

I am always looking for community partners. Together we will achieve more. If you…

  • feel strongly about making the community a better place,
  • are keen to organise, host or be part of well-being events,
  • want to become a volunteer of the Community Angels community, or
  • have other creative crazy ideas on how to make this community a happier place.

What my clients say

  • … coming weekly to Margarita’s sessions has helped me realise … that there are tools and ways to deal better with the challenges that life throws at us.

… we can train our minds to deal better with how these challenges make us feel and how to overcome them in the moment. I feel I have much more to learn …

Margarita has been teaching us to make it more of my daily routine so I can feel in a happier state everyday of my life

  • Margarita’s becalmify course was brilliant! Not only were the sessions themselves a great way to de-stress after a long day, they also gave me practices which I can use day to day to help manage my anxiety. I’ve been on a (much more expensive!) mindfulness course before but Margarita’s approach, the group setting and the one to one follow-up calls each week made this so much more successful at equipping me with the tools and the motivation to put them to use. I really appreciated Margarita’s genuine interest in how each of us were doing and what we were individually dealing with, whilst completely respecting our privacy in the group sessions. Wellness seems to be everywhere in 2019 but this course really does have the ability to change how you think and help you bring a little more peace and compassion into your life. Do it – you won’t regret it.

  • I had been flirting with Mindfulness for a year when I joined Margarita for my first group session at The Boileroom. I instantly felt Margarita’s warmth and relaxed into the sessions.

After a few months, knowing Margarita also did one-on-one sessions I signed up. She had shown a real interest in my issues (largely work based) and had offered great on-the-spot advice which was extremely useful and had given me an insight into what dedicated sessions would be like. She brings a broad range of experience that has helped me reframe problems, build new habits, sleep better and make some significant life decisions.
